Incredible!
Another luxury car maker goes green. This time a 205mph electric Jag with 0-60 in less than 3.5 seconds and zero emissions! Gas turbines in the back too.

Shame it only has a 68 mile range!

Re: Incredible!
"Zero emissions"... not counting the two jet engines behind the driver, lol. Yet another example of green "emperor's new clothes".
Wanna bet that if you add up the emissions from the gas turbines and the CO2 produced whilst charging it's batteries that this car is less green than most others on the road?

Re: Incredible!
not including the co2 to produce it aswell

Absolutely. There is no such thing as a zero emissions car. Don't think there ever will be either, but you simply cannot deny that performance!
Apparently it doesn't need the gas turbines to run though, they are just there for when you (quickly) run out of electricity!

Yes, it's quick but then making something go quickly with electric motors has never been a particular problem.
For exhibit A, go down to your local main line railway station and look at all the super-quick express train engines. They're all either pure electric or diesel electric almost without exception.
The problem with electric vehicles has always been to make them practical. They need to have a decent capacity and a decent range. I submit that a two seater sports car with a range of merely 68 miles and a pair of gas turbines where you want to put the shopping doesn't advance the technology very far.
I'd even go so far as to suggest that the motivation to be seen to be doing "something green" is the overriding concern here. Green is currently fashionable and no doubt the very un-green Jaguar range is giving their marketing department sleepless nights.

Re: Incredible!
wierd the green car thing,
if you look at any modern car their very efficient even compared to 50 years ago, we now easily get double the power per litre and double the mpg out of most like for like comparisons. for that the industry should be praised compared to many others.
Problem is we now have so many cars none of it helps.
agree to go green i.e electric is a part answer, bio fuels again help but again emissions to build anything and the toxins left behind aren't great.
back to the old argument if you kept the 30yr old car and used it everyday it may have twice the emissions and half the mpg but the lifecycle costs would outweigh any benefits. Believe the current generalisation is to keep a car 14 years makes it more efficient than any new car.
answers easy; walk, cycle, get a train/bus or stop worrying. Its like smoking you either do it or you don't. you can change small parts of your small impact with eco friendly mods or burn rubber, tune for power and enjoy the freedom before the world ends anyway because its hit by an asteroid and the futility of life is amply demonstrated to all the guardian readers.
Jag more power, more speed, more great looks, be the last to crack to political correctness and be loved for it. Hook those turbines up for standing starts and create a legend

Re: Incredible!
I become less conviced that we can actually change anything ... just too many people here I'm afraid. Example: Russia, Canada & Norway getting very excited that the receding ice in the Arctic is opening up vast oil reserves for them. So, loads more fossil fuel to burn .. hurrah!! Think we might just as well accept what will happen will happen.
Re: Incredible!
I say the same as Clarkson - if everyone in the uk went out and brought a gas guzzler, could warm the planet up so we might get nicer weather - if temps went up by 3 degrees, would have same as Spain
True winters would be worst but thats ok with me
Im doing my part with a fronty that does about 15 to the gallon - are you doing ur bit??
